Waning Iridescence was a tall, fit career soldier when she was Mnemon Narelle. Becoming an Abyssal darkened her mahogany hair to a deep black, though she still keeps it cut short to the neck and slicked back. Her skin color didn't change, since already had a natural Dynastic pallor but her blue eyes are subtly different, both a lighter blue in color and both sharper and harder than before.
Hope never relaxes, not even an inch. Her stance is always military, whether at attention or speaking from a point of command. She almost never smiles except for a sardonic smirk and rarely betrays much expression at all. The Abyssal wears the uniform of an officer of Hallowvale, which is always kept in impeccable condition. Her voice is surprisingly soft, sweetly musical and at times disconcerting against her appearance of the cold, stern inquisitor.
Waning Iridescence was born Mnemon Narelle, a daughter of Mnemon herself. She grew up with an immensely demanding childhood, filled with studying the Immaculate texts when she wasn't learning how to avoid embarrassing her mother. She showed early promise with natural aptitudes in managing people and military tactics. When she failed to Exalt, however, her dreams of entering the House of Bells ended. Embittered, Narelle was still permitted to enlist in the Legions so long as she obeyed Mnemon's wishes.
Mnemon Narelle was married at 19 to an adopted Outcaste named Ragara Ivar, an indifferent man who preferred men to her charms. This suited Narelle just fine, though the marriage ultimately slowed her professional plans. Pregnant by 20, Narelle was allowed to transfer to Legion administrative command as an aide where she showed startling aptitude at detecting lies. Coupled with her natural skill with words and her calm disposition, Narelle joined the small, elite ranks of the Realm's Military Inspectors who served to handle legal matters among the troops as well as interrogate prisoners and break spies.
By the time she was 25, Narelle was a skilled, sought-after inspector (for a mortal). When a Realm Review Board was assigned to inspect the city of Grayfalls' status, she was one of the Inspectors assigned to go. After months of travel to get there, and months more inspecting the city, the Review Board was days away from departing when she was assigned to inspect a southern garrison and interrogate a captured soldier from Hallowvale.
Unfortunately for her, the captured soldier was Husk of Nightmares, a Day Caste spymaster for the Obsidian-Streaked Overlord Initiated into Forbidden Wisdoms. He'd allowed himself to be captured to gather intelligence on Grayfalls. Impressed by her skill and unflinching relentlessness in the interrogation, they debated points of the Immaculate Philosophy, leaving the mortal Inspector shaken to the core. When he chose to break free, he only mortally wounded her while he slaughtered the rest of the garrison. Then he watched as a voice offered Narelle the chance to surpass the small mortal life she'd been given. Initially resistent, Narelle listened more intently when the voice whispered of the lies of the Immaculate Religion and the chance she would have to find out the real truth. Dizzy from bloodloss, confused by the Day Caste, she agreed.
Three years later, Waning Iridescence of Unshed Hope stands as the Obsidian-Streaked Inquisitor, an Abyssal tasked with exposing spies and traitors in the midst of Hallowvale. Her efforts have led to the capture of agents as well as common murderers. Much to the surprise of the cold Inspector, she finds herself a popular public figure and one well respected in all ranks of Hallowvale's society. Slowly, the Midnight Caste Abyssal finds herself growing fonder than ever of the people of Hallowvale, even as she tries not to think about her 8 year old daughter Nyce and 5 year old son Kelen left behind in the Realm. Just as she tries to ignore the ache of her wedding ring finger in the morning after waking from haunting dreams of a shadowy love from the past, someone not her husband.
